Leon Harris
Qualifications : Diploma in Security Studies, Certified Protection
Professional (CPP), Certificate IV in Security (Risk Management),
Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
Leon holds a Security Consultant’s Licence and Security Trainer’s
Licence.
Leon is the principal consultant of Harris Crime Prevention Services.
His professional interest is in crime prevention for community based
organisations and businesses, quality assurance and training. His
experience in crime prevention includes projects with institutional
emphasis, including hospitals, nursing homes, hostels, retirement
villages, research facilities and independent schools. He has expertise
in other environments such as warehousing/distribution centres, religious
establishments and retail developments.
His ongoing research and study into crime prevention contributes
significantly to the formation of a knowledge base which offers
a proven platform for clients to achieve best practice, including
standards
compliance and accreditation. His Internal Auditor of Quality Systems
background is evident in his focus.
Leon is a Standards Australia committee member on ‘HE-026’ for
AS4083 ‘Planning for Emergencies - Health Care Facilities’.
From 2000 - 2007 Leon was an advisory team member for the University
of Western Sydney’s Australian Centre for Security Research
(ACSR).
Leon is a regular contributor of crime prevention articles for various
national publications. He is often asked to speak at security and
OH&S forums.
Leon holds memberships with the Institute of Security Executives
(ISE), Logistics Association of Australia (LAA) and is an Associate
Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (AFAIM).
Geoffrey Harris
Qualifications : Bachelor of Commerce Degree (UNSW), a Diploma in
Criminology (Sydney University) with research into armed hold-ups
and a Masters in Policy Studies (UNSW) with research in the area
of security risk and crisis management. Certificate IV in Security
(Risk Management), Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
Geoffrey holds a Security Consultant’s Licence and a Security
Trainer’s Licence.
Geoffrey is a senior associate of this firm and the principal consultant
of Harris Security Management. He has been involved in the security
industry for over 25 years and has been an independent security management
consultant since 1983. Geoffrey has an extensive list of projects
to his credit involving a range of activities. These projects include
risk assessments, security reviews and audits, security and criminological
research, audits and planning, emergency management, expert witness
reports, security policy development, contract design and crime prevention
through environmental design. His experience includes Health, Aged
Care, Universities and Schools.
He has developed security master plans for campus style organisations.
Of particular note was the new Sydney Showground at Homebush Bay.
He has also undertaken major security reviews of ‘domicile’ campuses
for the Department of Community Services such as the Western Sydney
Developmental Disability Services campuses at Westmead, Rydalmere
and Parramatta. Other campuses include TAFE Colleges throughout NSW.
Geoffrey is an Standards Australia committee member for AS 3745
Emergency control organization and procedures for buildings, structures
and workplaces. He is also a Standards Australia committee member for AS 4421 Security Guards and Patrols.
He is a member of a number of respected professional bodies in
Australia.
Don Robertson
Qualifications: BA (Criminology), MA (Education), Grad Diploma
in Environmental Studies.
From 1996 – 2007 Don was an Associate Professor in Criminology
at the University of Western Sydney and Director of the University’s
Australian Centre for Security Research. He also managed the University’s
Bachelor of Policing course and presented at crime prevention forums
and courses run by NSW Police.
Don has worked with the NSW Police in training Crime Prevention Officers
for their specialised role.
Don’s experience and expertise is in developing crime prevention-by-design
strategies for corporate and community developments. Specifically,
he is concerned about the relationship and dynamics between the design
of space, structures and systems and the impact of architecture on
the management of security risk. He has worked on crime prevention
projects for state and local government, community and corporate
organisations, specifically, incorporating security design into the
concept planning and architectural documentation stages of large
CBD commercial developments, hospitals, aged care facilities including
retirement villages and transport infrastructure as a primary cost-effective
asset protection strategy.
He has been instrumental in advising councils on developing guidelines
for major developments relating to security issues arising from
Section 79C of the Environmental Planning and Protection ACT
NSW [EPA].
